FUNDING & GRANTS
Good in Every Grain Seed Kits
Good in Every Grain is Grain Farmers of Ontario’s public outreach campaign devoted to gaining awareness for Ontario grains. The goal of the campaign is to gain exposure for Ontario farmers, the grains they grow, and the role that grains play in the everyday lives of Ontarians.
Through this we have a program where we offer seed kits to grade 3 teachers that ties in with the years curriculum and offers cross-learning opportunities. These kits are designed to teach Ontario school children about where their food comes from, how it’s grown, and the types of grains grown throughout the province. Due to COVID-19, we are extending the program for at-home learning with supplies and a helpful how-to parent guide.
Each kit contains a cup, wheat or soybean seeds, a soil wafer, and a parent guide. The parent guide contains information about the project as well as a growth chart for the plants. The seeds take roughly 4 months to grow and would be a great learning activity to do alongside spring crop planting. Alongside the kits, additional learning material about Ontario grains, a coloring page, and a ruler will also be provided. All materials will be sent in bulk for libraries to assemble upon delivery.
Grain Farmers of Ontario is the province‘s largest commodity organization, representing Ontario‘s 28,000 barley, corn, oat, soybean, and wheat farmers. The crops they grow cover over 6 million acres of farm land across the province, generate over $4.1 billion in production value, result in over $18 billion in economic output and are responsible for over 75,000 jobs in the province.
